Over at Household 6 Diva (one of my new favorite mil spouse blogs), it's Foto Friday, and the theme is 'Edit This!'
I've never participated in a Foto Friday, but when I read the theme, I instantly knew which picture I love the most thanks to editing.
The hubster returned from deployment in December, and it was one of the best days of my year! He came home late in the afternoon, and the light was so harsh on the water. I was afraid none of my pictures would turn out. So far, every homecoming in our marriage has yielded one picture that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, that ends up framed in numerous places. I wasn't confident though on this day, and thought I would go home without that perfect picture.
Thanks to PhotoShop, that wasn't the case though! This time, the picture that I LOVE LOVE LOVE is a little different. It's not our first kiss with my new braces and us laughing, it's not us grinning from ear to ear soaked from a downpour... it's a picture of the boat.
Why is that different? Well, I have no love for the boat on most days. She's an old, cranky beast that keeps my husband working long, hard hours, and sends him home smelling of Amine, covered in cuts and bruises. I love our life as a Navy family, but the boat... well, sometimes she's the easy target of my frustrations. And she's darn hard to photograph, being mostly submerged and all. ;)
But, boat or not, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. Thank goodness for Photoshop, or it wouldn't have been much of a picture at all. I love the rain, I love the lei that we worked so hard on, I love the warmth and the feeling of it. And I love that even though I couldn't tell at the time (thank you zoom!), hubster is looking at me, with his head cocked toward me. I'm always so grateful when he's topside!
And of course, more than anything, I love that this photo means he's home!
What's green about this, you might be thinking. Nothing really! But here and there, I'm hoping to share a little bit of our life outside of the realms of being eco-conscious, frugal, and vegan. And I love photos, and any chance I get to brag about the hubster. :)

Hello from an Air Force wife! Homecomings are great and so is your photo! :)

ReplyDeleteOh wow - great commentary to go with the photo. Terrific capture - the brilliance of the light is shouting their arrival almost. The way you softened it looks great.
